Day 3 - Vancouver to Campbell River

We awoke at 8 to begin our journey. The first port of call was Downtown Vancouver to pick up our rental car.

We ended up with a nice new Toyota, and after filling in all of the necessary form set about trying to recall how driving in Canada worked. Being situated where it was, this meant trying to navigate out of Vancouver's busiest streets. Thankfully the experience of our first trip set in and it eventually seemed second nature apart from the occasion reach for a non-existent gear box on the right-hand side where the driver door was.

We headed north out of the city and towards the nearby ferry terminal at Horseshoe Bay. From here we'd be catching the ferry to Vancouver Island to begin our first big journey north. We had missed the first ferry by a few cars, and this meant parking up in the long queue lines and visiting the adjoining village to get ourselves a drink and remember our last visit here.

Eventually the time came for us to drive aboard the ferry and be taken across to the island. We had a quick lunch on board and enjoyed the sea views for the two hour journey.

On arrival in Nanaimo we continued North to Campbell River where we'd be staying the night at Painter's Lodge; a seaside lodge on the coast of the Strait of Georgia. Our room was facing across the water and we noticed several more Harbour Seals peeking out from the water.

That night we braved the dropping temperatures and had our evening meal outside overlooking the water. We noticed a meal with Yorkshire Puddings and had to have it to see what they were like - not far off!

That night we slept with the balcony doors open so we could enjoy the sound of the waves as we slept off a little more of our jetlag.
