This was a 200 mile / 4 hour trip North through more of Wells Gray park and then east towards the Rocky Mountains. We'd underestimated just how long this would take, and the journey was about on par with the journey between Whistler and Kamloops. Thankfully we chose not to break it up with a strenuous mountain hike this time, and better still we were driving along some much more scenic roads.
We stopped off at Mount Robson for a while to take in the view and have a rest. We then continued across border into Alberta (switched time zones and losing an hour), and continued towards Jasper National Park.
Canada has a number of parks for which you need to pay for entry. Jasper is one, and the other for us would be Banff. Given the length of our stay, it was cheaper to buy an annual pass though it turned out to actually be a two years pass to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of confederation in 2017, so is valid until August 2018. This got us thinking about return visits!
Finally we skirted past the town of Jasper and continued to the Jasper Park Lodge where we'd be spending the next four nights. After a long journey, and losing an hour switching to Mountain Time, there wasn't a lot of time left for much else so we got ourselves some food at the lakeside restaurant and then settled down for our first night.
