Day 9 - Whistler to Kamloops (via Joffre Lakes Trail)

This morning we had to wave goodbye to Whistler as we headed along our route to our next stop Kamloops, this is the big change in our route as we have not done this route before.

Along the way we decided to stop at the Joffre Lakes Trail, the same one we did and loved our last visit. This trail consists of three lakes, the first being a short walk from the car park. From here the trail headed up. And up. Yesterday's mountain hike was taking its toll on our legs, but we persevered upwards through the forest walk to the second lake.

Next the third and final lake was another upwards but mercifully short walk away, and from here we sat down with the lunch we'd bought at Whistler.

The third lake is sat beneath the glacier that feeds water into all three and gives them their bright blue colour.

After a brief pause we set off back down the trial, this time all downhill, and back to the car to continue our journey. Towards the bottom we lucky enough to again spot a 'Pika' - a small mouse-like animal - sat on a rock. You can tell when these are around because of their distinctive squeak that sounds pretty much the same as a squeaky dog toy!

Once we got back to the car we continued our journey to Kamloops. This would be our longest single car journey, and was a bit of a slog after tiring ourselves out on the last two days. The road took us through the stunning mountain range road to Lillooet, then up through the dusty expanse to Cache Creek, and finally to Kamloops. A 4.5 hour / 185 mile journey in total. It would appear that this route is a lot less scenic, bit still beautiful in it own way!

On arrival, we retreated to our hotel room and without the energy to even go to get food, ended up ordering room service and having an early night!
