Day 14 - Jasper

Today we decided to head into the main town of Jasper. This is a very picturesque town nestled in a valley surrounded by several mountains.

Now two weeks into our trip, we'd just about run out clean clothes so our first trip was to the Laundromat!

Following this, we had a walk around the souvenir shops, stocked up our supplies, and stopped somewhere for lunch.

There wasn't a lot of time left for much else, so we decided to head back to the lodge. On the way, we spotted an animal at the side of the road and ended up doing a U-turn to spot what it was. It was a female Elk grazing in the trees. We stopped to watch it for a while, and then continued. We didn't get much further before we spotted several more in a roadside meadow. Again we watched to stop them for a while and take some photos.

Finally we managed to get back to the lodge, just in time for the complimentary Smores they were letting people make by the lakeside. We made ourselves a couple each and decided to attempt to walk around the lake.

We didn't get far before we were startled by yet another elk! This one was walking along the same path as us in the opposite direction and it was as we started crossing a bridge that we noticed it coming our way on the other side. It didn't seem too bothered by us, and in fact it didn't even stop walking. We had to back away from the bridge and let it go on its way.

We continued along the path for a short while, but with the sun setting we decided to call it a night and head back... only to find the same elk again happily muncing grass straight outside our cabin!
